I’m a California girl, born & raised, in my mid-twenties. I wanted to start a blog to have a creative outlet where I can share my experiences and some of my favorite things. My motives go even further than that, though, so let me explain.
I’m an engineer and I work in the medical device industry. Basically what I do is help transfer and commercialize new products by building new manufacturing areas and processes. Engineering, and I’ll lump all of STEM into this, still has a considerable gender gap from how many women earn STEM degrees, pursue a career in that field, and stay in the industry. With this blog, I hope to show that women in STEM have so much more depth and complexity to them - that we are not only just as capable as our male counterparts, but that we can also provide valuable insight from a different perspective.
Starting this blogging experience has allowed me to open myself up to that part of me that has always enjoyed being “feminine” - a part of me that I have often tried to suppress in fear of how I may be perceived as a female in my industry. So I want to thank you for joining me on this journey of breaking out of my shell, Along the way, I hope I can manage to expand people’s perspectives and inspire women and girls. Now cheers to embracing our true selves unapologetically!
Love,
Sashie
